Personal Project Memory
or

New forms of pictural
communication for museums
When doing a personal project, I work like a sculptor.
Start with a big block of material, then carve it down to a practical project
But when it came to find a subject to our Personal Project Memory
I just couldn't find any idea !
So, why not start off with a simple and universal notion ?
First, we need to ask ourselves some questions...
A solution seems to lay in collaboration.
After all, multiple minds looking for a common inspiration is more chaotic, but it can also create new connections of ideas !
As we can observe in any group project.
So, what happens if you bring other people into a whole creative process ?
To try and see, I've made an experiment...
Starting off with a simple abstract drawing, made to be open for interpretations
I asked a group of people to evocate what the drawing "inspired" them, in terms of mood, colors, action etc...
After focusing on their answers,
I iterated the drawing by representing those ideas as best as I could picture them.
Then asked again.
At this point, perspective and characters are added, to leave space for more action in interpretations.
A funny thing about that experiment.
The participating people did NOT know what the objective was.
Some of them assumed they had to GUESS. Like in a Pictionnary !
While on my side, I had absolutely no final vision for the picture.
It is their guess that build the drawing and the happening scene in it.
Now, following those observations... How could we imagine a tool to spontaneously create inspiration, thanks to a public imputs ?
For this, we need a context where it would be relevant.
Being already so focused on a pictural dimension, the Art and culture world had to be the domain for this !
So I started working on the Interaction loop between :
Artists
Public
And the exhibitor
From my observations, I've theorized a system to procedurally create visual content from many individuals.
Now, imagine your are going though an exhibition.
At the end there is an digital interactive panel.
At this point, the concept is still blurry and fictive.
Time and work are still needed before a final and tangible version could exist.
Well...
Do you think you could help me with that, by any chance ?
Presented on it, there is a selection of pictures from the art you've just seen, but some are edited.
Once you've chosen the one that you like, you can add your own personal drawing.
The new edit will be placed on the panel for others to react and iterate on it.
From there, three things are happening...
You, as public, will get newsfeed on how your drawing was received. Also, giving you something to show and share !
The exhibitor will obtain visual material to share, as commercial or social medias posts, gaining visibility.
The artist will get feedback on how its art has been received by the public, and could possibly find inspiration in it.
To have something to work with, I went to the Valenciennes Art Museum
Went through the exhibition...
And took pictures of interesting art pieces...
In order to use them in a demo !
Participants started to see much more complex storylines, while leaning for a shared interpretation.
Then I could make an (unfinished) draft, of an illustration with precise environment, ambiance and characters.
At any moment did I thought of this scene until the end.
Building it with others allowed me to create without finding inspiration myself !
What is inspiration ?
What's it's purpose ?
And most importantly, how do we trigger it ?
It's the spontaneous connection between thoughts or references, forming a brand new idea into one's mind.
It pushes us to act with passion and create original content, in any kind of domains.
By discovering new things.
It's source can come frome anywhere.
But sometimes, other people are the key to find it.
Inspiration
And i'm not talking about breathing...

To spontaneously create pictures out of this loop, I found inspiration in Artificial intelligence.
