POLLUTION
Gazing at the starts in the night brings a sense of wonder and enormity, poetic and mind bending.
Light is not something to take for granted...
...but neither is Darkness.
Getting you to deeply reflect on your human condition, against the infinite cosmos...
Immersive communal space
Sensibilisation of the public
Living experience on light and darkness
"darkness gives you sight"
But I'm just a leaf, so what would I know, right ?
Helped us gather as communities
But with time, it became omnipresent in modern life
Glare here, skyglow there, clutter everywhere. Spraying more light than the eye can see...
Light Pollution.
A paradoxal curse, where light blinds you from what there is to notice
It disrupts the natural cycle of living things...
At the beginning, light protected us...
It erases the stars, preventing us from gazing at the cosmos
Thankfully, many organisations are fighting to reduce our light use, and actions are taking courses...
What we need now, is to find a balance in our use of light. Gathering together around it, rather than spraying it around...
As context for this experience, we've decided to imagine a fictional park.
To give it context, we made benchmark studies of existing parks, to understand the parameters at stake.
From there, we theorized various facilities, activities or services that would make this park special.
Get people closer to each other and embrace a darker setting.
to gather as a community.
for a personalized exploration.
Change the mentalities.
immersive experience.
Allowing us to have a picture on how our imaginary park should be like.
Close, or in a city.
Open at night.
Light pathways
- Keep the light low and inside - Metaphorical  "campfire" - Step back from the lighted streets-  Gaze upon the stars - Leave with memories -
- Enjoy a calm moment - light at disposition for all - turns on when lifted - choose your color mood - turns off gradually - Accustom to the dark -
- "Roots" indication in the streets  - Leads to park - Participate in a movement with a symbolic ecofriendly lightbulb - gradually change the city  -
-No public lighting - Light turns on as you walk pass them - creates dreamy visuals - human presence all around  - become more confident in the dark
Our objective would become to create an immersive experience around light, and darkness.

learning as a community the alternatives to our current use of light.
A place to embrace the darkness, and its benefits for our lives.
In cities, there is hardly any space to "create" a park..

But one type of place you can find is abandonned building.
In our city, there is a specific one.

The forgotten school seemed to be the perfect fit to teach about light pollution !
To work on the (theoretical) rehabilitation of the place, I've built a Virtual Reality Mock up.

Using pictures and google street view.
From there, all the team could iterate on the possible arrangements for the place
And finally, being on a true VR frenzy, we ended up producing our whole final presentation on VR !
01.30 min.
Then those same ideas where put on the VR mockup
The forgotten School
The end
But then, an entire park was a bit "out of reach" to conceptualized  in a month…

We needed to find a more practical context.
To follow our objectives, while fitting better fo an urban environment and population.

Allowing citizens to rest from constant light exposition, in a chill and natural environment.

While playfully learning about Light pollution and new alternatives for living at night.
Hope you enjoyed the walk !
Now, would you want to explore a digital forest ?
